Lennie Mullaney Gallery Talk

Gallery talk from a joint show with Ree Katrak at The Barn Gallery, Ogunquit ME in May 2019.

This video shows how I work from multiple plein air studies done on location in order to create a larger studio oil painting. Studies may include oil paintings, charcoal drawings, print making, and - yes- even photos. I like to return to the same location again and again, at differnt times of day or night, in different weather conditions, until I know my site inside out. All of the sketches and smaller paintings are then synthesized into a larger painting. The smaller ones are spontaneous and fresh. I try to paint no more than two hours outdoors each time as the light changes. Each plein piece teaches me something new.
